Review of UK's Regulatory Framework for Management of Radioactive
The BEIS consultation in 2018 on 'Revised Requirements for Radiological Protection: Regulation of Public Exposures' asked for comments on the definition of "relevant liquids", with a view to conducting a review on the regulatory regime for liquid wastes. Responding to comments to that consultation, BEIS has commissioned PHE (with input from the environment agencies) to conduct this review.
Below are two documents; the first contains a Review of the main international and UK policy documents in relation to radioactive liquid waste and discharges; the second identifies current stakeholder concerns and proposals for potential improvements. They are being shared in draft status to help elicit responses to the following questions:
Do you agree with the description of the regulatory framework given in the first document?
Are there any issues not currently mentioned in the second document that we should be aware of?
Do you have any suggestions for improvements?
We would welcome any comments before the 1st May particularly on any those or suggestions on issues have not been previously made or you do not feel are covered adequately in the second document. Please contact Kelly Jones on 01235 825268 or email.
