Overview

PHE is the UK's primary authority carrying out research to advance knowledge about protection from the risks of radiation. In addition we’ve been integral in establishing world leading laser and optical radiation safety standards.

This one-day course provides an overview of the nature of optical radiation sources common to the workplace, the effects of exposure and the current exposure limits. The course discusses the requirements of the Control of Artificial Optical Radiation at Work Regulations 2010, and introduces a practical approach to complying with the requirements of the regulations.

 

Programme

The course is designed to allow students to leave with a practical tool that will assist with the identification of sources around the workplace, and the classification of these sources. The course uses case studies to illustrate potential pitfalls, and discusses methods for controlling hazardous exposures.
